Computing
At St Peter's, we believe that computing is an essential part of preparing children for life in an increasingly digital world. Our computing curriculum is taught through the Teach Computing Curriculum, developed by the National Centre for Computing Education and aligned with the National Curriculum.
Through a carefully sequenced programme of study, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to become confident, responsible and creative users of technology.
In line with National Curriculum requirements, pupils learn across the three key strands of Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy.
They develop computational thinking through coding, programming and problem-solving activities; learn how to create, organise and present digital content using a range of technology; and gain the knowledge needed to use technology safely, responsibly and effectively.
Online safety is a key priority and is woven throughout the curriculum, reflecting the Department for Education's expectation that pupils are taught how to stay safe and behave responsibly online. Children learn how to protect their personal information, communicate respectfully, recognise potential risks and make informed choices when using digital technologies.
Learning is carefully sequenced so that pupils build on prior knowledge, revisit key concepts and develop increasing independence in applying their skills. Through practical, engaging and purposeful activities, children learn to evaluate technology, solve problems logically and understand the role that computing plays in everyday life and future careers.
Through our computing curriculum, we aim to develop digitally literate pupils who are equipped with the knowledge, confidence and resilience to participate safely, responsibly and successfully in an ever-changing technological world.
