Specialist Subjects

At St Peter's Catholic Primary School, we believe that every child is unique, valued and created in the image and likeness of God. Guided by the words of Jesus, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10), our curriculum is designed to develop the whole child academically, spiritually, morally, socially and physically.

Whilst our thematic curriculum helps children make meaningful connections across areas of learning, our specialist subjects are taught discretely to ensure that pupils develop a deep understanding of the knowledge, vocabulary and skills unique to each discipline. This enables learning to be carefully sequenced, builds subject expertise and allows children to achieve increasing levels of mastery over time.

These subjects are not taught in isolation. Pupils are encouraged to make links between their learning wherever appropriate, drawing on knowledge and skills from across the curriculum. Through this approach, children develop a secure understanding of each subject while appreciating how different disciplines help them make sense of the world around them.

By combining subject mastery with rich opportunities for personal development, we aim to equip pupils with the knowledge, character and cultural capital needed to flourish in secondary school and beyond, encouraging each child to recognise their God-given gifts and make a positive contribution to the world.
