Music

Music plays an important role in life at St Peter's, enriching our curriculum, strengthening our faith and providing opportunities for creativity, self-expression and performance. Through music, children develop confidence, collaboration and an appreciation of a wide range of musical styles, traditions and cultures.

Our music curriculum is taught through the Charanga scheme, which is fully aligned with the National Curriculum and provides a carefully sequenced progression of musical knowledge and skills from Early Years through to Year 6.

Through listening, singing, composing, improvising and performing, pupils develop their understanding of the interrelated dimensions of music, including pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics and structure. Learning builds progressively over time, enabling children to revisit and apply prior knowledge while developing increasing musical fluency and confidence.

Extra-curricular Music

Music also plays a central role in the Catholic life of our school. Through hymn singing, collective worship, liturgies and celebrations throughout the Church's year, pupils experience music as a powerful way to encounter God, express faith and participate actively in prayer and worship. Children regularly learn and perform a repertoire of hymns and songs that support their spiritual development and strengthen our sense of community.

To further enrich musical opportunities, pupils are able to access instrumental tuition through Warwickshire Music, allowing them to develop their talents and interests beyond the classroom. Musical performances, concerts, productions and liturgical celebrations provide opportunities for children to showcase their skills, build confidence and experience the joy of performing for others.

Through our music curriculum, we aim to develop knowledgeable and enthusiastic musicians who appreciate the value of music in culture, community and worship, while encouraging every child to discover and develop their God-given gifts and talents.
