At St Peter’s, we are guided by our mission to put Jesus at the heart of everything that we do. As one family in our Catholic school, we recognise and value the gifts and talents of every individual pupil in our community and work tirelessly to ensure all pupils are supported to flourish academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally so that they may ‘have life & have it to the full’ (John 10:10) at St Peter’s and beyond.

We are ambitious for all pupils and believe that every child, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), has the right to experience success, achieve their potential and lead a full and enriched life.

We recognise the diverse educational needs within our community and are dedicated to providing an environment where students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are valued and supported. Our child-centred approach is built around a culture of high aspirations for all pupils and the belief that all children must be supported and given opportunities to reach their academic potential and develop their personal skills and talents.

St Peter's is committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing and aspirational learning environment where barriers to learning are identified and addressed at the earliest opportunity. Through high-quality teaching, adaptive practice, appropriate challenge and targeted support, we ensure that all pupils can access a broad, ambitious and knowledge-rich curriculum. We recognise that every child learns differently and aim to provide the support, adaptations and opportunities needed for every pupil to thrive.

The Principal, Governors and SENDCo oversee the school’s policy for inclusion and are responsible for ensuring that it is implemented effectively throughout the school. In partnership with parents and carers, we follow a detailed graduated approach for support and intervention for pupils with additional needs. This is built upon the foundations of strong universal provision of quality-first teaching of the National Curriculum, routines to promote emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour, carefully planned differentiation & adaptations (including to challenge and extend learning) to learning, effective assessment of progress and appropriate, evidence-informed interventions tailored to pupils’ needs.

Collaboration is central to our approach; therefore, our highly skilled teachers and support staff work closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) to develop effective strategies that cater to each pupil's unique requirements. Furthermore, we actively engage with external agencies to provide additional support and resources, ensuring that our SEND students receive the highest standard of education.

Together, we foster a culture of belonging, dignity and respect. We strive to empower every learner, nurturing their potential to ensure that all pupils are confident, successful learners who are equipped to make a positive contribution to their communities and the wider world.
